PROCESS OF MASTER (THESIS)

ACCEPTANCE TO THE PROGRAM AND PROGRAM DURATION |
A process begins along which the accepted student must meet the requirements for graduation.
Students can take the thesis defense at the end of the third semester upon the recommendation of the advisor and the opinion of the head of the department, provided that they complete the course and seminar studies with an average of at least 3.20 in two semesters and are registered to the thesis course at least twice. |
APPOINTMENT OF ADVISOR |
The thesis advisor is appointed and approved with the proposal of the department head until the end of the first semester and the thesis subject determined together with the advisor is proposed until the end of the second semester and approved by the administrative board of directors of the graduate school.
The thesis advisor is selected among the faculty members, who meets the qualifications determined by the Senate. In the absence of a faculty member with the qualifications specified in the Yaşar University staff, an advisor from outside the university may be appointed with the decision of the administrative board of directors within the framework of the principles determined by the Senate. If the second thesis advisor is to be appointed whenever necessary, it may be appointed from among those, who are not within the staff of Yaşar University, too and who have at least a PhD degree. The title of the thesis may be revised upon the request of the student, the thesis advisor’s approval, the opinion of the head of the department and the decision of the administrative board of directors; the thesis advisor may be changed upon the application of the student and/or thesis advisor, the opinion of the head of the department and the decision of the administrative board of directors of the graduate school. |
COURSE PROCESS |
The student must successfully complete the courses with credits and seminar courses at the end of the fourth semester at the latest.
The student has to register to the thesis course to start the thesis work. The thesis advisor is obliged to give grades at the end of each semester that the student enrolls in the course indicating that the thesis study process is successful or unsuccessful. |
THESIS DEFENSE PROCESS |
The student, who will defend his/her thesis for the first time or who has already defended, but will defend it again because s/he has received a -3- month correction, completes his/her thesis and submits it with the transcript to his/her advisor.
In the opinion that the thesis is defensible, thesis, transcript and the “Master Thesis Defense Application and Jury Proposal Form” is submitted to the Graduate School by the head of the department via EBYS. |
The thesis jury is appointed by the decision of the administrative board of directors of the graduate school. The graduate school generates the similarity/plagiarism report related to the thesis and sends the copies of the thesis to the jury members. |
The thesis defense consists of the presentation of the thesis and the following question and answer session. The thesis defense is held open to the participation of listeners, lecturers, postgraduate students and experts of the field.
After the completion of the thesis defense, the jury gives the decision of acceptance (S: Successful), rejection (U: Unsuccessful) or correction (I). The decisions of the jury are notified to the graduate school by means of the “Master Thesis Defense Jury Minute” within three days following the thesis defense together with the “Master Thesis Defense Individual Jury Evaluation Form” filled by each jury member. |

The student, who submits 3 copies of the thesis with white cardboard cover and hardcover (without spiral) (one copy should contain the thesis approval page signed by the jury members), 3 CD copies containing the thesis work (the file in the CD should be saved with the YÖK thesis data entry reference number, there should be no personal data in the file), Thesis Submission Form (signed by both the advisor and the student)(https://lee.yasar.edu.tr/en/master-thesis-forms/) and the “thesis data entry form” received from the Council of Higher Education Thesis Center (https://tez.yok.gov.tr/UlusalTezMerkezi/) to the graduate school within one month after the date of entrance to the thesis defense, and whose thesis is approved in terms of its format by the graduate school (for details: https://lee.yasar.edu.tr/en/masters-w-thesisphd/thesis-template-and-style/) receives the master’s diploma with thesis.
Graduate School may extend the submission period up to 1 month if needed. Students who do not meet these requirements can not obtain the diploma, and student rights and dismissed if the maximum period expires. Within three months of the thesis submission, thesis is sent to the YOK thesis depository by the Graduate School to be offered to the research and academic activities. Note: Foreign students can login the National Thesis and Dissertation Center by getting temporary e-government password. Foreign students can obtain e-government passwords from Postal Office Central Directorates or authorized branches in Turkey by presenting passports and a valid residence permit. e-Government password can be obtained from embassies and consulates abroad. Detailed information can be obtained from the related foreign representative offices. |
The student is dismissed from the program, in which s/he is enrolled, by the decision of the graduate school administrative board of directors. | The student defends the thesis in front of the same jury within three months latest. For this defense, the stages that must be followed in the first thesis defense process will also be applied in exactly the same way.
At the end of this defense, the student, whose thesis is not found successful, is dismissed from the program, in which s/he is enrolled, by the decision of the administrative board of directors. If the student, whose thesis is rejected, requests a non-thesis master’s Degree; s/he is granted a non-thesis master’s degree provided that s/he has fulfilled the course credit load, term project writing and similar requirements of the non-thesis master’s program. |
